Beginning January 1, 2009 all research
studies will be submitted through our new online submission program called
IRBNet. This will also apply to any actions (i.e., Continuing Reviews,
Amendments, Adverse Events, etc.) on existing studies that were previously submitted
on paper. The "How To Submit" link will help you with registration and
submission procedures. The

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and addresses the
issues concerning Biohazards in research. ORI also supports the institution
in promoting ethical conduct of research and educating Marshall students and
employees regarding research misconduct regulations.
Copies of application forms,
deadlines,
information on policies and procedures, and Marshall University's Statements
of Assurance can be obtained on this website or from ORI.
Applications for medical/biological
research should be submitted to IRB #1. Applications for
social/behavioral research should be submitted to IRB #2. Applications
for studies that have been approved under the National Cancer Institutes
Central IRB should be submitted to the MU CIRB (under IRB#1).
Choose the IRB (IRB #1 or #2) that is
appropriate to the nature of your study. Please submit the hard copy application
package and the protocol to the IRB for review.
Full AAHRPP Accreditation.
Marshall University has received Full
Accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research
Protection Programs (AAHRPP). We are the first academic institution in the
state of West Virginia to receive this prestigious accreditation. What
benefits will our organization realize because of accreditation?
- Through accreditation, we demonstrated our
high ethical standards in protecting research participants, which will
help to increase public trust in research.
- AAHRPP's stringent standards helped us
raise the quality of our human research protection program.
- By carefully reviewing our program, we
have a more efficient and effective research operation.
- Accreditation signals to sponsors and
investigators the efficiency of our operation and the quality of the data
produced. Sponsors and investigators now have readily available
information about our ability to conduct research ethically and in
compliance with regulatory requirements.
